Peter Horjus enjoys creating original images every day, whether working on a logo, an editorial illustration, or a fine art piece. He loves design and illustration because of its ability to tell a meaningful story. Whether his work inspires and entertains people, or delivers a compelling visual message that serves your product, publication, or company, he is grateful to use his design skills to achieve his client’s objectives.
The studio of Peter Horjus is an award-winning workshop based in Santa Barbara (formerly San Diego) with top-notch creative services in graphic design, branding, illustration, fine art and art licensing. The studio’s portfolio spans the scope from Fortune 100 companies to small business, from top shelf national magazines and newspapers, to local publications. His favorite clients have been Saks Fifth Avenue, Rolling Rock Beer, Coca-Cola, Barnes & Noble, Lucky’s, Toyota, The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine.
Peter studied – and also taught – graphic design at Point Loma College in San Diego, he has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art & Graphic Design. He continued on with Graduate work in Graphic Design at San Diego State University and studied Landscape Architecture for a stint at Cal Poly. In college he worked on campus for the Design Director Bob Flatley, who taught him the nuances of logo design, later he won a coveted apprenticeship with professor/designer Linda Brosio at SDSU, and also interned for Kelly Davenport Design. Soon after college, and before opening his own design studio in his early 20’s, Peter had various places of employment in design – NOSC (Naval Oceans System Command) creating graphic design presentations for torpedo launches, soon thereafter he got a call from San Diego Home & Garden Magazine for an Associate Art Director position, also working for Reavis Communications as a Senior Designer, and Kaypro Computers as Art Director. He has worked for design firms and ad agencies throughout San Diego and the United Sates and the studio is going stronger than ever with plans for expansion.
He also had the honor to serve as Chair of Communications AIGA/SD. He enjoys good friends, mentoring design and illustration students, coffee shops and talking shop, reading, running, the ocean, vintage typography ephemera, and old Land Rovers.
Peter’s inspiration varies, from fashion found at art openings to art found at hardware stores, but what he loves most of all is meeting new clients and creating innovative solutions to their design, illustration and fine art challenges.
