Peter Horjus enjoys creating original images every day, whether working on a logo, an editorial illustration, or a fine art piece. The studio of Peter Horjus is an award-winning workshop based in Santa Barbara (formerly San Diego) with top-notch creative services in graphic design, logo design, branding, illustration, fine art and art licensing. The studio’s portfolio spans the scope from Fortune 100 companies to small business, from top shelf national magazines and newspapers, to local publications. His favorite clients have been Saks Fifth Avenue, Rolling Rock Beer, Coca-Cola, Barnes & Noble, Lucky’s, Toyota, The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine. Peter studied and taught graphic design at Point Loma College in San Diego, and has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art & Graphic Design. He continued on with Graduate work in Graphic Design at San Diego State University and studied Landscape Architecture for a stint at Cal Poly. In college he had the opportunity to work on campus with Design Director Bob Flatley, a graduate of The Art Institute of Chicago, who taught him the love, strategy and nuances of good logo design, three years later he won a coveted apprenticeship with professor/designer Linda Brosio at SDSU, and then interned for Kelly Davenport Design.

After college — and before opening his own design & illustration studio in his early 20’s — Peter had various places of design employment including NOSC (Naval Oceans System Command), creating U.S. Government secret level graphic design presentations for torpedo launches, soon thereafter he received a call from San Diego Home & Garden Magazine offering an Associate Art Director position, which was wonderfully instrumental for his illustration career, as he would hire himself for a variety of illustration assignments. At Reavis Communications he designed pharmaceutical packaging as a Senior Designer, and at Kaypro Computers he worked as Art Director. Peter also had the honor to serve as Chair of Communications for AIGA/SD (American Institute of Graphic Arts).

After a few years flying solo as Horjus Design & Illustration he was picked up by New York Rep Gerald & Cullen Rapp Art as one of their group illustrators. Rapp Art is a United States-based illustration agency, representing nearly 96 award-winning artists from around the world. Founded over 70 years ago, Rapp Art has collaborated with many of the legendary talents from the golden age of illustration.

Working with design firms, ad agencies, and fine art clients throughout the United States, his Santa Barbara studio/gallery is going strong. He enjoys getting together with friends, mentoring design/illustration students, sketching ideas at coffee shops, reading, running, the beach, vintage typography ephemera, and old Land Rovers. Peter’s inspiration varies, from fashion found at art openings to art found at hardware stores.
