About Peter Horjus

Peter Horjus finds joy in crafting original imagery every day, be it designing a logo, illustrating for editorial purposes, or creating fine art pieces. His passion for design and illustration lies in their ability to convey meaningful narratives in simplified iconic images. Whether his work sparks inspiration and amusement or delivers a compelling visual message to elevate a product, publication, or company, he feels privileged to leverage his design skills to fulfill his clients’ objectives.

Operating from his esteemed workshop in Santa Barbara (formerly San Diego), Peter Horjus Studio offers top-tier creative services encompassing graphic design, logo design, branding, illustration, fine art, and art licensing. The studio’s distinguished portfolio ranges from Fortune 100 companies to small businesses and spans across national magazines and newspapers to local publications. Among his cherished clients are esteemed names such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Rolling Rock Beer, Coca-Cola, Barnes & Noble, Lucky’s, Toyota, The Wall Street Journal, and Time Magazine.

Peter’s journey in design began with his studies and teaching of graphic design at Point Loma College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art & Graphic Design. He further pursued graduate studies in Graphic Design at San Diego State University and explored Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly. During his college years, he honed his skills under the mentorship of distinguished designers such as Bob Flatley and Linda Brosio.

Before establishing his own design & illustration studio in his early twenties, Peter gained valuable experience at various design establishments. His roles included creating secret-level graphic design presentations for the U.S. Government at NOSC (Naval Oceans System Command), serving as an Associate Art Director at San Diego Home & Garden Magazine, and designing pharmaceutical packaging at Reavis Communications.

Peter’s career trajectory saw him collaborating with illustrious organizations like Rapp Art, a renowned illustration agency based in New York, where he joined as one of their esteemed illustrators. Today, Peter continues to thrive in his Santa Barbara studio/gallery, catering to design firms, ad agencies, and fine art clients across the United States.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Peter finds solace in spending time with friends, mentoring aspiring design and illustration students, sketching ideas at local coffee shops, indulging in literature, beach outings, vintage typography ephemera, and vintage Land Rovers. His eclectic sources of inspiration range from fashion showcased at art openings to art found in hardware stores.

Peter welcomes new clients with open arms, eager to craft innovative solutions to their design, illustration, and fine art needs. For those interested in scheduling a consultation, feel free to reach out to him at peter@peterhorjus.com.
